GLOBAL MEDICAL MISSION “Building Communities, Bridging Continents”
The Local Government Unit of Umingan in cooperation with the Rotary Club of San Diego Paradise Valley, USA headed by RC President and a native of Umingan, Ms. Femie Villaflores-Cupit and Global Medical Mission Chair Mr. Gabriel Perpetua and its local counterparts from Rotary Clubs of Baguio South headed by President Ms. Angie dela Cruz, Urdaneta President Ms. Marife Estrada and Sta. Barbara President Mr. Froilan Fernandez, conducted a free medical/optical, dental and surgical mission last February 6, 2011 at the Municipal Gymnasium. Dubbed as Global Medical Mission, the whole day event is intended to provide free medical services to the indigent townspeople of Umingan. This medical mission was spearheaded by Hon. Eldred P. Tumbocon, Mrs. Camila M. Tumbocon and Ms. Aizza June S. Ramos, the Project Coordinator for this event.
The 31 medical team from the US and the different parts of the Philippines assisted by the Rural Health Unit of Umingan Staff and Volunteers provided the 1,551 patients free consultation and medicines as well as cyst extraction for 67 patients and 47 circumcision procedures to young boys while a total of 185 patients were provided free tooth extraction resulting to a total of 1, 850 patients served.
Due to the overwhelming response of the indigent population, a continuation of the Dental Mission was held last February 8, 2011 at the Municipal Gymnasium. Dubbed as “Fulfilling an Unfinished Commitment” the Dental Team from Rotary Clubs of Urdaneta, Baguio South and Sta. Barbara served a total of 203 patients.
Overall, there were a total of 2, 053 patients who were provided free medical, dental and surgical services.
Once again, this successful event proved that no distance can hinder us from working towards a common goal.
