MASS WEDDING 2011


The Local Government Unit of Umingan once again held a Mass Wedding Celebration for its constituents last January 30, 2011.
The holding of the annual Mass Wedding was derived from Municipal Ordinance No.1, S-1998 authored by then Municipal Councilor and now the Municipal Mayor of Umingan Hon. Eldred P. Tumbocon , declaring the last Sunday of January every year as Mass Wedding Day and granting prospective couples exemption from government fees and charges.
This joyous affair started with a lecture on the value of wedding ceremony by Ms. Mairavic A. Oficial from the Universal Peace Federation, Pangasinan Chapter. Municipal Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon officiated the exchange of marriage vows of the 49 couples who participated in the event. Also present were Vice Mayor Alain P. Rabang, SB Members Fred A. Fernandez and Welly B. Navalta who is also the Chairman on Committee on Women and Family and the different Barangay Councils.

UMINGAN MEDICAL VISION MISSION


A free optical mission was held last January 20-24, 2010 at the Municipality of Umingan. The five-day optical mission is intended to deliver free vision services to the underprivileged people of Umingan wherein the indigent population will receive free eye examination, graded eyeglasses, eye medications and cataract and pterygium surgeries. Barangay Don Montano, La Paz, San Juan, Ricos and Amaronan were the host barangays for the said optical mission.

A mobile clinic was brought to the five host barangays where eye examination was being conducted by the 30 member medical team from EyeCare WeCare Foundation headed by Dr. James Weyrich, OD, President of EyeCare WeCare Foundation, Washington, USA. Volunteers from the Rural Health Unit and the Young Organization of Umingan as well as the different Barangay Councils were also present to provide assistance during the mission. A surgical operation was simultaneously conducted at the Umingan Community Hospital by the Resources for the Blind, Inc. under the supervision of Ms. Maria Victoria Victorino, Project Coordinator for Cataract Surgery and Dr. Ralph Asuncion of the Lion’s Club, City of San Fernando, La Union.

There were about 1, 407 people who were seen and provided eyeglasses for during the five-day mission and a total of 23 cataract surgery and 11 pterygium surgeries performed.

This free Medical Vision Mission was made possible through the efforts of Mr. Danny Aguilar, an Engineer at Bausch and Lomb, USA and a true blooded Uminganian in cooperation with the Local Government of Umingan headed by Hon. Eldred P. Tumbocon and Mr. Arjo Brian M. Victoria, Project Coordinator, Aberdeen Washington, USA Lions Club, Resources for the Blind Inc., Bausch and Lomb Foundation, EyeCare WeCare Foundation, Family Federation of World Peace, Negros Navigation and Lions Club, City of San Fernando, La Union.

RURAL HEALTH UNIT-1 OF UMINGAN RECEIVES NEW MICROSCOPE


The Rural Health Unit - I of Umingan received a new CX21 Olympus Microscope from the Department of Health-San Fernando, La Union. The microscope was turned over by Mr. Valerio V. Lopez, the OIC Regional Director of DOH Center for Health Development to Mr. Ryan Revita of RHU-Umingan last August 12, 2010. The donation was also in line with the National Tuberculosis Program of the Department of Health and would be a great help to further provide fast and accurate medical and laboratory services to the people of Umingan.

NEWLY-ELECTED OFFICERS OF FEDERATED BARANGAY HEALTH WORKERS’ ASSOCIATION, INC. (Rural Health Unit-I)



The Federated Barangay Health Workers’ Association, Inc. (RHU-I) conducted their election of officers last August 2, 2010 at the Umingan Municipal Gymnasium. There were 146 participants out of 159 members who casted their votes and made this event a success. Mrs. Lima N. Etrata was proclaimed as the new President of the association and will serve a three year term. The newly-elected officers of FBWHAI were sworn into office by Hon. Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon last August 5, 2010 at the Mayor’s Office.

Book Donation from our Cailians


Last August 2, 2010, the Municipal Library of Umingan once again received a books donated by our generous cailians, sisters Augusta “Agnes” Cabading Quezon and Millie Cabading Suitos of Brgy. La Paz, Umingan, Pangasinan now based at Eagle Lake, Martinez, California, USA. They gave 2 boxes of books consisting of one (1) set (24 volumes) of Collier’s Encyclopedia, children’s dictionary and other reference materials as well as 98 assorted magazines for use in the Library. This good deed from our cailians all throughout the world shows their unending support and love to the Local Government of Umingan’s effort to promote and instill the love of reading to children and encourage more youth of Umingan to learn and make use of the Municipal Library as their best place of reading, of adventure, of exploration, of just enjoying a good story from the available reading materials therein. The reading materials were personally handed to the first lady of Umingan, Madam Camila M. Tumbocon, and were duly turned over to the Municipal Librarian Mary Gene P. Fernandez.

2nd Blood-Letting & Tree-Planting Activity, a Back-to-Back Success!


Once again, the Local Government Unit of Umingan in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross-Pangasinan Chapter held the 2nd Blood-letting Activity dubbed as "Dugo, ibahagi mo. Buhay, masasagip mo" on July 16, 2010 at the Municipal Gymnasium, Umingan Pangasinan and was participated in by the Municipal employees, Barangay Officials, BHWs, member of the PNP Umingan and the Philippine Army, DepEd, Sta. Catalina College of Arts and Science students and from different sectors. The activity was commenced by a short program with Ms. Florame Magalong, Chief Administrator of the Philippine Red Cross-Pangasinan Chapter gracing the event, Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon, SB Member Troy P. Rabang, Chairman in Committee on Health, members of the Sangguniang Bayan. In this year's event, there were about 35 blood donors who willingly donated blood to help out in the success of this humanitarian activity of the LGU spearheaded by Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon.

Prior to the blood-letting activity, at about 7:00 am, tree-planting activity was conducted at Brgys. Don Justo and Alo-o, where in 50 seedlings of mango tree and 100 seedlings of melina tree were planted on the idle land. It aims to promote environmental awareness and protection especially so that Umingan was one the towns badly affected by flood during the last year's devastation of Typhoon Pepeng. More so, it aims to achieve an ecologically-balanced Umingan and its environs. The tree-planting activity was organized by the 4H Club (Head, Hands, Heart, Help)an organization composed of youth, ages 15-30 years old and single, as to date, the 4H Club has already 46 active members. The activity was spearheaded by the Municipal Agriculturist Office headed by Mr. Francisco O. Collado, sponsored by LGU-Umingan in coordination with SB Member Fred A. Fernandez.

Oath-Taking of the Newly Elected Municipal Officials for 2010-2013


June 30, 2010 marks another milestone in the political history of Umingan. On this day, the Honorable Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon, CE-GE, together with Vice Mayor-elect Alain P. Rabang and the other winning officials took an oath and pledged for another three years of unwavering commitment and dedicated service to the townspeople of Umingan.
The ceremony started with an early morning mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Jessie S. Prado at the Municipal Hall Grounds and followed by the blessing of two (2) new units of ambulance. One of which was acquired during the 2007-2010 administration of Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon and Vice Mayor Alain P. Rabang and the other unit was donated by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). These ambulances truly will be of great help to the LGU in providing immediate medical service to the people of Umingan.
The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Municipal Judge Plotinus T. Sanchez to the following elected officials: Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon, Vice Mayor Alain P. Rabang, SB Members Fred A. Fernandez, Neil B. Andaya, Lisandro C. Gonzales, Emil Tristan T. Trinidad, Troy P. Rabang, John D. Advincula, Welly B. Navalta and Mario L. Sonaco. The event was attended by Board Member Alfonso C. Bince Jr., families and friends of the elected officials, the Department of Education, municipal employees and other guests. The guests were entertained by the Umingan National High School’s Tribu Ramabak dancers, who won as daily winner in ABS-CBN’s Showtime and performed last June 12, 2010 for the weekly finals. The ceremony was culminated by a luncheon celebration at the SB mezzanine hall.
Again, to the newly-elected Municipal Officials, congratulations and continue serving the people of Umingan!
