TRC Conducted Beaded Accessories Training for Umingan Local Council of Women

A livelihood training course on Beaded Accessories was held on March 22, 2011 at the NGO Building of Umingan,Pangasinan. It was sponsored by the Local Government Unit of Umingan headed by Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon through the initiative of Ms Camila M. Tumbocon, the Honorary Chairwoman of ULCW, and in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare Development Office headed by Ms Elma C. Bequio and ULCW President Ms Lovenia Jasmin.
Trainers were from the Technology Resource Center, San Juan City, Metro Manila. A total of 32 women from different barangays actively participated in the training.
The activity is in line with the vision of the Umingan Local Council of Women (ULCW) which is “Empowering Women Through Entrepreneurship”. It also coincide with the celebration of International Women’s Month.
Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon showed his support for the empowerment of women by gracing the affair with a message of encouragement for the trainees. DILG officer Carmen Rosario C. Rafanan also gave a message.
Participants of the said training were able to come up with beautiful and intricate designs of earrings, charm bracelets, cellphone holder, key chains and many more. They learned the basics of Beaded Accessory making. Given the proper guidance, it showed a great potential for the ULCW members to earn extra cash for the family should they decide to make it a full time business since this kind of venture only needs small capital and can be utilized even in the confines of their homes. Ms Camila M. Tumbocon together with the ULCW secretariat are working on the follow-up activities of the group.

Klinika iti Away: Serbisyo iti Salun-at para iti Umili

As the name implies, Klinika iti Away (Serbisyo iti Salun-at para iti Umili) is a Mobile Clinic that visits barangays every Tuesday and Friday. It is aimed to provide free medical assistance and medicines to the townspeople of Umingan. We first visited Barangay Calitlitan last April 12, 2011. Mayor ELDRED P. TUMBOCON and the First Lady Mdm. CAMILA M. TUMBOCON graced the launching of this project. As of this writing, Klinika iti Away has already visited Barangays Calitlitan, Evangelista, Labuan, Cabalitian, San Pablo, San Juan, Baracbac and Diaz. It will cover fifty five barangays. Klinika iti Away is just one of the many special projects under the administration of Mayor ELDRED P. TUMBOCON and Sangguniang Bayan presided by Vice Mayor ALAIN P. RABANG. This special project is under the Executive-Legislative Agenda.

Another Victory for Umingan Delegates at the National Collegiate Games 2011

Umingan delegates once again went home with happy faces as they brought with them honor in the recently concluded National Collegiate Games 2011 at Zamboanga City held last April 18 – 14, 2011. Rose Vi P. Membrado bagged the 3rd Place in the 5,000 meter walk and 4th Place in the 10,000 meter walk. Elmer John Casildo got the 1st Place in the 4x400 meter relay and 3rd Place in the 800 meter run. Vanesa P. Membrado finished as the 2nd Placer in the 5,000 meter walk while Hadji Bravo took home the 5th Place in the High Jump Competition.

The Umingan National High School (UNHS) and Umingan Central Elementary School (UCES) went home victorious after bagging a total of thirteen (13) medals and three (3) trophies for UNHS and thirteen (13) medals for UCES at the recently concluded Ilocos Region Athletic Association (IRAA) last March 14 – 19, 2011 held at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center, Lingayen Pangasinan.

Prior to IRAA, delegates from UNHS also bagged a total of twenty nine (29) medals during the Division Meet held last December 13-18, 2010 at Tayug, Pangasinan.

The victorious athletes who will represent Ilocos Region in the upcoming 2011 Palarong Pambansa on May 14-19, 2011 at Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte will be given again financial assistance and support by the Local Government of Umingan. The delegates from UNHS were coached by Ms. Janette Banaga, Ms. Hilaria Valencia, Ms.Carmelita Aquinde, Mr. Eusebio Solis and Mr. Virgilio P. Padila, the Over-all Coach & Trainor. The delegates from UCES were coached by Mr. Howell Hope M. Vergara, Mr. Abraham Agsalog, Mr. Julius Arata and Mr. Robert Mira. Their officiating officials were Ms. Ma. Prado National High School Volleyball Girls Spiking a Gold Victory at IRAA!!

The recently concluded Ilocos Region Athletic Association (IRAA) last March 14 – 19, 2011 held at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center, Lingayen Pangasinan, paved way for a Gold Medal for the Volleyball Girls of Prado National High School, who represented Pangasinan II Division. The team is composed of Aiko Sweet B. Urdas (the Most Valuable Player), Crystal Jane Olinares, Julie Ann Gavina, Jacqueline V. Dado, Marilyn Digap, Hazel Ann Digap, Noemi Arellano, Ailyn Novisio, Marites Verganio, Marilou Espiritu, Emma Jane Positero and Mary Grace Gonzales. The team was accompanied by Ms. Julieta Abara (Principal), Mr. Reynaldo G. Carvajal (Teacher and Team Coach) and Ms. Zenaida Carvajal. They will represent Ilocos Region in the 2011 Palarong Pambansa which will be held on May 14 – 19, 2011 at Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

UMINGAN BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 2011 OPENING

Let the games begin!

The Local Government Unit of Umingan formally opened the Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon’s Cup-Umingan Basketball Tournament 2011 last March 7, 2011. This basketball tournament is in preparation of the Umingan Town Fiesta activities happening on April 8, 9 and 10, 2011.

The tournament started with a parade led by the participating teams comprised of Barangay Clusters I-VIII, Sangguniang Bayan/LGU, Association of Barangay Council (ABC), Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Young Organization of Umingan (YOU). Selection of Muse of the Tournament followed wherein Lailani Abarientos of the PNP emerged as the winner while the Best in Uniform was awarded to Cluster 5. An exhibition from the Quezon Memorial Academy (QMA) Drum and Lyre Corps followed before the games officially began.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mayor Eldred P. Tumbocon, the Honorary Chairman of Umingan Basketball Tournament 2011, SB Member Neil B. Andaya, Sports Committee Chairman-Umingan Town Fiesta 2011, SB Member Welly B. Navalta, Mr. Isidro II A. Fernandez- Chairman, Executive Committee-Umingan Town Fiesta 2011 , Mr. Daneking Noble-Executive Secretary and Mr. Rene Domingo, Commissioner of the Umingan Basketball Tournament 2011.

GLOBAL MEDICAL MISSION “Building Communities, Bridging Continents”

The Local Government Unit of Umingan in cooperation with the Rotary Club of San Diego Paradise Valley, USA headed by RC President and a native of Umingan, Ms. Femie Villaflores-Cupit and Global Medical Mission Chair Mr. Gabriel Perpetua and its local counterparts from Rotary Clubs of Baguio South headed by President Ms. Angie dela Cruz, Urdaneta President Ms. Marife Estrada and Sta. Barbara President Mr. Froilan Fernandez, conducted a free medical/optical, dental and surgical mission last February 6, 2011 at the Municipal Gymnasium. Dubbed as Global Medical Mission, the whole day event is intended to provide free medical services to the indigent townspeople of Umingan. This medical mission was spearheaded by Hon. Eldred P. Tumbocon, Mrs. Camila M. Tumbocon and Ms. Aizza June S. Ramos, the Project Coordinator for this event.

The 31 medical team from the US and the different parts of the Philippines assisted by the Rural Health Unit of Umingan Staff and Volunteers provided the 1,551 patients free consultation and medicines as well as cyst extraction for 67 patients and 47 circumcision procedures to young boys while a total of 185 patients were provided free tooth extraction resulting to a total of 1, 850 patients served.

Due to the overwhelming response of the indigent population, a continuation of the Dental Mission was held last February 8, 2011 at the Municipal Gymnasium. Dubbed as “Fulfilling an Unfinished Commitment” the Dental Team from Rotary Clubs of Urdaneta, Baguio South and Sta. Barbara served a total of 203 patients.

Overall, there were a total of 2, 053 patients who were provided free medical, dental and surgical services.

Once again, this successful event proved that no distance can hinder us from working towards a common goal.
